Ganesha Sharanam Sharanam Ganesha
Ganapati Ganapati Om
We could all use to remove obstacles nowadays. This mantra is intended to just that. When you are reciting these ancient sounds, send out the intention that all obstacles and barriers will be removed from your mind, heart, body, and life!
Translation:
Ganesha is the elephant-headed god you no doubt have seen depicted in little statues in yoga studios, etc. "Gana" means troops or multitudinous spiritual attendants, and "isha" means Leader, so Ganesha is the "Leader of the troops." Ganesha is the remover of obstacles and is always invoked at the beginning of any endeavor. He also represents the earth element - the root chakra - which needs to be solid before we can fly. Ganapati and Gananatha are two other names of Ganesha. "Pati" means protector, and "natha" means Leader, so Ganesha, Ganapati, and Gananatha really mean the same thing: "Leader of the troops."
